New Orleans, LA - Po boys, beignets, and a guaranteed return visit.

We only had one full day in New Orleans. It just so happened to be a day full of rain!! We were able to get a little sight seeing in before we got dumped on, thankfully! 

The first evening we arrived, we drove into town and took the Street Car (see pictures) to the annual “Po Boy Festival.” Lots of restaurants brought their A-game to impress the crowds with their best version of the famous po boy sandwich along with unique and savory sides. There were two stages with live music, which was MY favorite part! (Aaron is more of the foodie and I’m more of the entertainment critic). 

The live Cajun music was AWESOME and I couldn’t stayed and danced all night! Instead of taking the Street Car back to our truck, we walked the mile and a half back through the beautiful Carrollton Historic District and enjoyed the beautiful streets, homes, and churches (see pictures)

The next morning, we took the bus from our RV Park back to the Street Cars to take us the rest of the way into the French Quarter.

Once we were in the French Quarter, we walked around, visited some cool shops, walked through Jackson Square and grabbed some to-go beignets and Cafe Au Lait from the famous Cafe Du Monde! As soon as we walked outside to find a nice spot to enjoy our treats, the rain POURED down and we got completely soaked. We ran for cover in a nearby art gallery until the rain stopped (but it stopped only for a few minutes). Luckily for us, the French Quarter has balcony cover along most of it’s streets, so we were able to pop into a quite a few more shops, including the Tobasco Country Store and Maskarade, which supplies beautiful hand-made masks for many TV shows and concert performances.

The temperature started dropping pretty quickly and we started getting pretty chilly since we were wet. We decided to call it a day and head back. 

We definitely want to return at some point to experience the city and all it has to offer on a better day!

The Three Oaks And A Pine RV Park was in a rougher part of the city, but it had a locked gate at night so it felt plenty safe. It wasn’t fancy by any means, but it served it’s purpose for being reasonably priced and in a cool city! Plus, we got 50% off our stay thanks to our Passport America membership! The staff was great. Bill, the onsite property manager, made quick friends with Aaron and even helped out with a couple issues and questions we had with the RV (multiple times!). If we had a bigger budget, we would have loved to stay in the RV park right inside the French Quarter, but at 1/4 the price, we will happily stay at Three Oaks again.
